Recent work

The part of a paint job you never see

A paint job is usually judged on the last coat, which is the easy part to photograph. The frames in between are the ones worth looking at: old paint taken off back to bare timber, boards made good, plaster filled and sanded, undercoat on long before any colour goes near a wall. That work is what decides how the finish looks in five years, and it is why each set below runs from before, through the middle of it, to the day we packed up.

Project 01

1800s weatherboard house brought back to life

Outside: bare cladding, then undercoat, then charcoal. Inside: a raked ceiling in prepared plaster, panelled walls in white and deep green, and a charcoal fireplace wall.
